Welcome to the first issue of the Reiki newsletter 2010!
I don't know about you, but I sure feel Spring right around the corner! The sun is out, the trees are budding, and there definitely is more of a "hustle and bustle" feel to the air. I hope you are all finding yourselves in a healthy and whole place of being, and that you have time to spend soaking up some of those rays!
With Spring comes all sorts of new beginnings - whether you yourself have started a new pattern or job position, or just simply the warmer weather, it is still exciting to see what's to come next! It's also a time of sowing seeds, and planting the crop that's to harvest in autumn. What kind of seeds do you wish to sow?
Leaving the choice up to you, I have offered here in this newsletter several options of things to put some energy into, or to try out - if you are interested. Take a look and explore the different upcoming events and offered information. You are always welcome to check out the Reiki Fellowship website as well, where we also offer opportunities to become more active in your Reiki practice, or just to connect more to the world.

Miraculous Member Peggy Snow, LMP, Reiki Practitioner
Peggy is trained as a Reiki Practitioner and is a licensed massage therapist. An honors graduate of Ashmead/Everest College, Peggy has a massage and Reiki practice in Woodinville called Radiant Balance. Her sessions are a blend of intuitive, therapeutic touch and dynamic energy work. Underlying all of Peggy's work is a belief in the body's natural ability to heal itself given the right conditions. She will attend to you with full presence to support your healing process. Contact Peggy at 425-327-0622 or psnowmn@mac.com. Visit her on the web at www.radiantbalance.net
Fun Fact! Peggy lived in New Zealand for 2 1/2 years and her youngest child was born there. New Zealand is a highly spiritual place just teeming with life!
To get to know Peggy a little bit better, we contacted her and asked her a few questions! Peggy, what has brought you to the path of Reiki? I had taught private flute lessons for years and had become fascinated by how the vibrations of the instrument seemed to help my students feel better. I also had become more spiritually conscious after going through a difficult period in my life. As I was looking for a new direction to take I experienced my first Reiki session. During the session as I became aware of the increased flow of energy, I was struck with the simple but profound realization that "I am not in charge" along with a reduction in wrist pain that I had been experiencing at the time. I wanted to share this powerful experience of life force energy connection with others. I feel deeply honored to work with people in this way.
What is one aspect of Reiki you are drawn to most? The aspect of Reiki that I am drawn to most is its ability to connect one to inner knowing. It encourages both the practitioner and the person receiving the work to work from a completely open, loving, receptive state. I believe that this is the embodiment and strength of the Divine Feminine.
When did you receive your first Reiki attunement? I received my first Reiki attunement in November '06 with Jennifer Yost
Favorite Reiki position to receive/do on your Self? My favorite Reiki position involves putting one hand over the heart chakra and the other over another chakra or area that feels like it needs connection. The heart chakra is where the earth energies connect with higher consciousness vibrations and life force energy, and is a place of great wisdom.
What is your favorite color? Periwinkle blue
Pick a number between 1 and 12. 7
Thank you, Peggy, for your support and the amazing work you are doing out there in the world! It is a blessing to have you as a part of our team.
Starting Your Professional Practice
Bringing Reiki to Hospitals
With Reiki being so new, it is hard to find places in the area that know about it or offer it in their facilities. If you are lucky, you are able to start off your private practice at home or by renting out space. But what if you haven't found the space to do so yet? Where can you start working and who supports Reiki in these areas?
A lot of the time, it is good to start off volunteering your skills to the community, or by trading with other medical professionals. Not only does this get your name out there, but it creates contacts for you for future business, in case you decide to start your own practice some time later.
I have offered here various hospitals in the area, for people and animals, that currently offer Reiki to their patients. Take a look at the different areas and see if there is one near you! You could offer your services for a multitude of unique individuals- whether you are drawn to help in the delivery room for newborns, aiding someone who is in pain, or passing away. The opportunities are boundless!

GaiaBlessings Sink your roots deeper into the Earth this Sunday Where: Wherever you are!
**We are ALL children of this world, getting many of the nutrients and things we need to survive from the Earth. She/he gives us much each and every day, giving off an amazing amount of power and energy to all of us. Sundays starting at 9AM we are coming together to give a little energy back, to show respect and appreciation for her and all of her children as well. In this way we build the foundation of health and love on this planet. And we strengthen ourselves in the process.**
"We're sitting on our blessed Mother Earth from which we get our strength and determination, love and humility - all the beautiful attributes that we've been given. So turn to one another; love one another; respect one another; respect Mother Earth; respect the waters - because that's life itself!" - Phil Lane
"Prayer has been made to mother earth that She blesses us with the knowledge required to exploit the treasures of the nature but without disturbing the environmental balance." - Atharva Veda
Find a favorite spot to sit, a quiet and private place, or if you prefer right in the middle of hustle and bustle, and share a moment with the trees, the plants, bugs and birds, and all the critters and creatures around. Give some Reiki to whatever you feel could use it, share your breath with a tree, and just sit in silence and watch the miracle of life around you. :o)
The Zen Corner
This Month:
"a 5-Second Relaxation Secret"
When I first read that title in a news article, I thought, "bologna!" Just like any other "get rich quick" scheme, or "lose weight now!" diet, they've turned meditation into an "instant gratification" commercial... Wonderful. But with further reading I discovered that the technique actually had validity! So I am eager to share it with you.
The secret? Relax your face. Everything that goes on in your body is reflected somewhere in your face. If there is tension in your mind, in your back, in your feet - anywhere, it will show. Just like the soul is reflected in the eyes, the body is reflected in the face.
Many of you of course have heard about reflexology, a technique similar to massage. It is based on the idea that every part of your body is reflected in the feet, the hands, and the ears. It is also true with the face. Relax the face, and the body will follow.
You may use your favorite method to do so, but the one I suggest is to use your Reiki hands. Hold them just above the skin, and very slowly and methodically bring them down around your face, even down the neck to the shoulders if you want. Notice the difference.
Are you just going to take my word for it? Give it a try! I know you have five seconds :o)
An Article on Discernment, written by Eileen Dey
dis·cern·ment
n. The act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good
judgment.
I don't know if I would have listened to my teachers had they told me
that this Reiki word would occupy so much of my own path years ago.Probably not.
I would have done what I did along the way.But if they had really emphasized how
important and key this one concept is to anyone on the spiritual path, I might
have made some different choices.
That concept being:a true seeker
must cultivate the light of discernment-the internal light to effectively
navigate the path that will be before them.
Its often so overwhelming at first, whena student enters into New Age/spiritual circles. What is truth? What is a gimmick?Who is just out to take your money?Who is an authentic teacher? Which path can
provide the most structure?Which path
can promote the most healing? So many
choices as and directions.
From my own experience, I can say that sticking to one path, instead of
going down many different ones has allowed a depth of knowledge and wisdom to
emerge
.
I have met other students and colleagues who's approach has been a
multitude of modalities...but the danger with that can be an extreme breadth of
knowledge, but no depth of wisdom.
I discovered for myself that there should be a repetitive practice on the
spiritual path.Whether it is yoga,
meditation, martial arts, journaling, etc. Continuity builds a foundation. The foundation serves as an anchor. The anchor facilitates the discernment
because one becomes rooted in their integrity.
So that when new paths appear, there is a 'ground' on which to return to
for contemplation and clarity.
Discernment is using your own body and mind as an instrument of
perception and insight.
Who do you wish to align yourself with? What will the circle of friends be that supports and surrounds you in
your work?Who is your tribe?Being in touch with your own insight allows
you to make choices that are in line with your true nature. You aren't making choices for someone else,
or an idea of what you should do.
You cultivate discernment through your spiritual practice. You also cultivate it through life experience
and your own healing process. You learn
what works, and what doesn't.
This is not to say that you are your only island or source of comfort and
guidance. You may have a council around
you composed of friends and colleagues. But your discernment has enabled them to exist around you.
And be prepared for those relationships to shift as you move forward on
your path.
I also learned that discernment enables you to call forth the individuals
who will support you.Who encourage you,
who allow you to shine in your true talent and gifts. There is reciprocity, there is equal
exchange.Give and take.Healthy functioning of the system.
When you work n the healing profession, many people will become attracted
to you.Your vibration has shifted from
the 'norm', you are on a path of wellness and transformation.
It is palpable.People are drawn
to healing.
But it is important to exercise limits and boundaries.
This is another key component with discernment. Those lines need to be drawn and when they
are stepped over, when weeds begin to sprout, when pests infest, its time for a
revaluation of what isn't working.
There will be people who will want to take up much of your time with
their own concerns, needs, desires.
Decide for yourself where your efforts, where your intentions is going to
be put.
Its often difficult in spiritual circles, because you acquire the role of
practitioner, teacher, You know this is happening when you feel a drain from
that relationship.
For example, years ago, I met a Reiki practitioner named Celia. She was new in town and wanted to connect
with the Reiki community.I agreed to
meet her for tea and during the first meeting realized I would have to put
boundaries up around her because she was pulling my own energy into her.
She wanted to connect and have some one help her get her life
straightened out.She was fleeing a
relationship gone bad and was looking for retreat.
So I looked up some of the retreat centers I knew and she found one
several hours outside of town.In a few
days she was there and she invited me up to come stay.
I took her up on an overnight, and we agreed to do a Reiki trade session
with each other.During the whole time
she was giving me Reiki she talked into my crown chakra, about her life, and
about what she was going to do in the future.
I felt overwhelmed and unable to ask her to stop her talking.I had the discernment to finish out the trade
(giving her Reiki in silence because I needed it!) and then bowing out and
leaving early.
The experience taught me to be more vocal before I receive a session,
telling the practitioner what it is I need.It also heightened my discernment sense a bit on perceiving when clients
and students were in a needy place and to support them but not to lend myself
totally (as in the case of a trade) while they are in their process.
The important thing to remember is not to harp on yourself when you feel
you have been mislead or gone astray. Consider these detours on your path. You got to observe some scenery you
ordinarily would not have had the chance to.
Exercise
A.Who
are you?
The more you know what you are
about, the easier discernment becomes.Another Record yourself saying 'Who are you?' (or have a friend willing
to ask it to you) repeatedly in 20-30 second intervals over a 5-10 minute
period (30 minutes if you really want to get to the 'juice').It's a technique we use in advanced Reiki
training to get to the heart of who exactly we are beyond our roles, titles,
functions.Who are we and now that we
know, what do we need to do?
Spend time journaling and
reflecting after this exercise.Give
yourself plenty of time for meditation, reflection and Reiki healing.
If you can have a friend ask
you the question, you can then return the favor after your session is
over.It's a very profound experience
for both.
